And don't forget about Travellers' Cheques - whilst considered by many to be old fashioned they are very useful, plus they can be replaced very quickly if they are lost or stolen, unlike cash. |

The local banks overseas normally offer very good exchange rates and low charges for changing your money. Do check however, before you travel, how their rates are set.
Are they set by the demand of the service? So, for example, if you are going somewhere remote the service won't be well used and rates might be higher. Or, if the rate is set by the Government, if so if the Country is suffering from financial problems the rates might also not be so good.

If you share this concern then think about using your cash card to withdraw cash as and when you require it. The rates of exchange are normally very good, however do check in advance if your Bank will charge you each and every time you make a cash withdrawal.
It's also worth telling your Bank that you are intending to use your card overseas, just in case they note the overseas card activity as suspicious and freeze the card, leaving you with no access to any money. |
