Getting Ready To Leave ... |
Here we provide some general tips on preparing to leave your home empty for a while.
It's bad enough when you return home from a few weeks in the sun, so don't add to your holiday blues by returning to a home that's been burgled! Follow our easy to use tips that help make your home look lived in.
Firstly, think about whether you need to do any of the below:
- Do you have any daily deliveries like milk and newspapers that need to be cancelled?
- Do you really need to order anything that will be delivered whilst you're away - can it wait until you return?
- Re-arrange any meetings or appointments that are booked for whist you are away.
- Ask a friend, neighbour or someone from your family to come over to your home and remove any built up post from your doorstep and letter box.
- Avoid rotting food in your fridge or cupboards by using up any perishable items.
- To be on the safe side switch off your TV, computer etc. plug sockets throughout the house.
- Save yourself some money by turning off your hot water and central heating during the Spring and Summer months. Or in the colder Winter months turn them right down, but not off in case of a hard frost.
- Make sure your pets are looked after properly whilst you are away. Either book them into a cattery or kennel, making sure you've packed some of their favourite toys and treats. Or you could arrange for a friend to look after them either at your house or theirs, just make sure they've met plenty of times first.

Packing Tips & Luggage Allowances ... |
You must pack your baggage giving careful consideration to your airlines luggage allowances or you could be liable for a fine not to mention huge embarrassment at check-in. Read on for more information.
Each airline have their own strict rules on luggage allowances so do check, however mostly airlines allow the weight of an individual bag to be 70lbs/32kg or less. Check on the reverse of your flight ticket for your luggage allowance.
If you arrive at check-in with a very heavy bag you will be charged a fine to carry the weight onto the aircraft, what's more you'll also be required to repack your bags into a variety of smaller bags so the weight is distributed. If you don't pay the fine you will have to get rid of the excess weight that will then be destroyed by the airport.
If however travelling with large, bulky or outsized baggage advise your airline in advance of travel.
The Ground Hostess will ask you a number of questions about your baggage. These questions have increased in recent years - as directed by the British Government - so make sure you check-in with plenty of time to spare.
More information can be found on restricted items that cannot be packed in either your hand luggage or main baggage by visiting the Security section of this website. |
