Blackpool Airport Lost Luggage ...

It's a very frustrating start to your holiday. You've arrive at your holiday destination, only your luggage doesn't.

Here we provide a host of information regarding Blackpool Airport lost luggage, Blackpool damaged baggage, Blackpool delayed luggage and also Blackpool stolen baggage. This includes how you go about claiming, any 'get out clauses' the airlines might try and general tips and advice.

To contact your airline just add in their name and their details will be displayed.

Blackpool Lost Luggage ...

The British Airports Authority strictly states that each individual airline is responsible for the security of the passengers' bags.

If you fear that your bags have gone missing then you must contact the airline you were travelling with immediately.

You'll need to describe your bags, you may also need to give an outline of the contents too. You will then be given a reference number that allows you to track the progress of tracking your Blackpool lost luggage.

In the event of a claim against an airline you may be asked to present receipts for luggage and contents you are claiming for. Then your claim is assessed and you'll be offered a compensation amount, however, as in most insurance claims the amount is unlikely to match the total claim.

Many airlines won't declare your luggage as lost until it's been missing for a certain amount of time, normally 21 days. After the 21 days it's considered lost and compensation cases can start.

When making a claim most airlines say that they're limited, by the Montreal Convention, in compensating their passengers by £800 per person for lost luggage.

Transit Flights

If your flight means changing between several airlines yet you only have to check in your baggage just once you are able to make a claim against any of the airlines who carried it.

However, bear in mind that they will of course try and blame each other and compensation cases can be long and drawn out.

However, if the airlines refuse to deal with your claim remind them that they are in breach of the Montreal Convention.

Limited Release Tags

These limited release tags are placed on certain items of luggage like sports equipment, musical instruments and pushchairs.

This LRT intends to remove the airline’s liability should it become lost or damaged, however as the airline has agreed to carrying the item then they are actually in breach of the Montreal Convention if they do refuse to give any compensation because of the LRT.

Blackpool Delayed Baggage ...

The Montreal Convention says that a traveller's luggage is deemed as 'delayed' up until 21 days, after which it's deemed as lost.

For any passenger experiencing delayed baggage should be offered immediate compensation in the form of the following:

One-off payments to cover emergency purchases like underwear and toiletries.

A set amount per day up to a total number of days for emergency goods.

Or, the passenger is required to buy the emergency goods and the airline will reimburse when presented with the receipts.

After the 21 days you are able to start your claim for compensation.

Blackpool Damaged Baggage...

For damaged baggage claims the airline will assess the value of the claim and make a compensation amount accordingly, but it's likely to be must less than what the passenger is claiming for. It might also be the case that original receipts for the contents of the suitcases are asked for too.

In the event of just the passenger's cases being damaged they will more than likely be immediately replaced from the airline's store cupboard.

Blackpool Stolen Baggage ...

It's nearly impossible to claim for individual items that have been stolen from a passenger's luggage. This is because it's very difficult to prove the items were in the cases in the first instance.

Therefore it's highly advised that all valuable or sentimental items are carried in the passenger's hand luggage where possible.

Always check the airline's clause in their terms and conditions about not accepting responsibility for valuable or perishable items (like mobile phones, cameras, camcorders and jewellery).

Although it's arguable that such exclusions are in breach of the Montreal Convention. However, on the flip side, if the airline state such items aren't covered, either in their T&Cs or considered “items unacceptable as baggage” in their conditions of carriage you won't be covered.

Advice & Tips ...

You'll never completely guarantee that your luggage won't be lost but here are a few things that you can do to help:

  • List everything you've packed so you can provide this to the airline in the event of a claim.

  • Write your name and address on a piece of paper and put it inside your luggage, just in case it goes missing and your luggage label falls off.

  • Flymycase will transport your luggage anywhere in the world for a small charge - good if you are travelling with special items

  • Keep your receipts for the things you are travelling with

  • Carry all of your valuable items in your hand luggage

  • Always travel with travel insurance that covers you and your luggage - our Travel Insurance Page provides more information

  • By using brightly coloured, distinctive baggage as it can prevent passengers from mistaking your bags as their own and it can deter thieves!
