Duty Free Allowances At Blackpool ...

When considering duty free shopping at Blackpool Airport make sure you know what shopping you are able to make savings from based on where you are travelling to.

There are also rules and regulations in place by UK Customs regarding your duty free allowances which are detailed below, along with restricted and prohibited items.

Duty & Tax Free Shopping ...

You can take advantage of tax free shopping if you are either a passenger travelling within the EU or International long haul. Tax free shopping offers a saving as if Value Added Tax at 17.5% hasn't been added.

Travellers flying outside of the EU can purchase goods for extra special savings that are duty free. International long haul passengers can also shop using their duty free allowances.

Do note however that passengers sometimes need to pay additional tax on goods when arriving at their final destination that's outside the EU. And sometimes when bringing the goods back to the UK, although goods from newsagents, pharmacies, bookstores are excluded, as are duty paid items.

To see what allowances apply to your travelling destination look at the current EU members.

Any passenger travelling to the Channel Islands i.e. Gibraltar can actually shop as if travelling outside of the EU because these Countries are considered outside the Community Customs territory.

When shopping within the departure lounge all passengers will need to show their boarding cards should they make a purchase, so keep it handy at all times.

It's well worth checking out the World Duty Free website in advance to see what bargains you can have when flying out of Blackpool Airport. Customs Allowances Within The EU...

Passengers won't be liable for any additional customs duty when flying into the UK from the EU if bringing in the following goods:
  • 1 Litre of alcoholic beverages stronger than 22%, or 2 Litres of still table wine, or fortified or sparkling wine, or other liqueurs

  • 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250g of tobacco

  • 50g of perfume and 250ml of toilet water

  • Goods including souvenirs up to £145

  • Goods obtained duty and tax paid in the EU are unlimited
Strictly any alcohol or tobacco goods brought into the UK must be transported by the passenger, including carrying off any goods imported in hand luggage off the aircraft, and for the passengers own use (i.e. own consumption and gifts).

No goods can be brought into the UK for resale or for payment of any kind, or they will be considered for a commercial use.

Any goods considered by Customs to be being brought into the UK for a commercial use will have to under-go questioning by a Customs Officer. Expect to be asked questions like why they were bought, how much was paid, what are the type of goods, all about the quantity of goods, how often that passenger travels and such like.

Also taken into consideration to the enquiry is whether the goods look like they've been hidden out of sight or if they are on visible display.

For instance, Customs will suspect the following:
  • 10 Litres of spirits
  • 20 Litres of fortified wine (i.e. port or sherry)
  • 110 Litres of beer
  • 90 Litres of wine
  • 3,200 cigarettes
  • 200 cigars
  • 400 cigarillos
  • 3kg tobacco
Any goods viewed as being imported for commercial use will be seized and not returned.  The same if found being sold. If found guilty of this serious offence persons could be jailed for up to seven years.

Many Countries have rules and regulations on how much alcohol and tobacco goods are allowed to be imported and it maybe you are asked to carry paperwork covering the quantity of goods you are bringing in. It's best to check therefore with the Country’s Authorities before buying the goods.

These Countries, for example, have their own special laws:

  Special Restrictions
  Czech Republic 200 cigarettes, or
250g smoking tobacco, or
50 cigars, or
100 cigarillos
  Estonia 200 cigarettes, or
250g of smoking tobacco*
Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia & Slovenia 200 Cigarettes*
* From these Countries, there is no limit on other tobacco products as long as they are for the passengers own consumption.
